Sorry. I am getting good at this but failing at the last hurdle. Adjusted the L screw, then attached the cable. Adjusted the cable tension so that the jockey wheel is aligned / indexed. Fine up to gear 10 but the shifter is not letting me go to 11 ! I don't want to force it - I know it's there what is going on ? Is that the H screw ?

PS - I know my B screw is yielding a 6mm gap so not dicking about with that.

Thx.

Nick

Adjust the L screw. Best to adjust both screws before you fit the cable and the chain.

Wind the B screw in so there's less than a 6mm gap aswell; will make your shifts better.

Sounds liek you're getting the screws mixed up. H screw is for the smallest cog, L for the biggest

I will never get the H and L, too counter intuitive for me lol.

Thx David. I just don't know how to adjust the L (granny) screw when I have loosened the cable ? I put the chain in the granny but then what ?

Scotroutes you mean L screw ? LOL !

Remove chain and cable.

Adjust H screw so the r/mech top jockey wheel is aligned with the smallest cog.

Push (with your hands) the mech up towards the biggest cog, as far as it will go, till it stops on the L screw. If the top jockey wheel goes past the biggest cog then wind the L screw IN. If it stops before reaching the bigges cog, wind it out.

David - I can't remove the chain, no way. That will be a catastrophe.

Can I still adjust the L screw with the chain on then ?

Yes, of course you can, it's just harder as you can't see whether the jockey wheel is aligned as easily.

Removing the chain is easy if it's got a split link

Sounds like you need to turn the L screw out if you aren't able to shift in to the biggest cog.

So should I turn it clockwise or anticlockwise ?

I have a SRAM powerlink but I can't open it, it's not like the old 10-speed one. It's absurd...

Anticlockwise. Try just half a turn, then try changing into it. If that doesn't quite go, try another quarter turn or so.

Last time I had a similar issue it was because I had not wound the cable adjuster right in at the shifter before fitting new cable.
Did you check this was wound in before fitting new cable, can give just that wee bit extra pull needed to get mech tight enough for the last cog. Try winding this in then retighten the cable at the mech.

Do as David Taylforth says. Push the mech across with your hand. If it'll go across to engage the biggest sprocket by pushing the mech (but not by using the shifter) then it's a cable issue. If it won't, it's a limit screw issue.

All sorted at last !! Thanks all and David in particular.

I still think that 11-speed Shim is more sensitive and goes out of adjustment far more than 10-speed which was fit and forget...

Gotta agree, 11 speed is unnecessary.
