Mitts!
Everyone I see out riding road wears mitts, why?
Horrid things with padding where the manufacturers want not the rider.
Tried some again recently and it felt bloomin awfull.
What with pnuematic tyres, carbon forks, carbon bars and padded tape is there any reason to wera them.
Bareback is the way I tell thee.
I rode 60 miles on Sunday in the heat in bare hands and got very sore. I don't have padded tape (don't like the feel of it) or carbon bars (you may have noticed that mitts are cheaper). ๐
The reasons to wear gloves on the road are exactly the same as off-road... comfort and protection.
If you don't want to wear them, don't!
You can get mits without padding.
My guess though is that some people go to mitts straight away, though I have noticed more unpadded mitts on the market now.
what njee20 + 1.
If you've ever come off on the road and 'rashed' your hand you'll know how sore it is and how long it takes to heal.
I only wear gloves in the winter or on the track. I guess I would wear them if road racing.
At this time of year, I want what little opportunity there is to get some sun on the backs on my hands. A cycling tan is weird enough as it is, without it extending only between the upper arm and the wrist.
I don't use padded bar tape (or carbon bars) either, and find that my hands are fine. Mind you, my palms are becoming, er, somewhat calloused... ๐
I dunt like mitts, I want full fingers for the wiping my dripping brow. Its been bleeding running off me the past couple of days.
Mickey-mouse hands are ace though. Ewe nose it.
