[#1082781]

I'm looking through a lot of sites and forum topics on bike lights. I had originally thought about making a set but financially I can't afford to spend £100 on the bits with the posibilty of buggering something up so think I'm going to have to buy the best I can afford.

I've been looking at some cheap options such as rechargeable batteries as opposed to packs, I have loads of rechargeable AA batteries so carrying spares with me won't be a problem. One of the first ones I looked at was the Hope Vision 1 [240lumens] which is just under a ton. It seems a pretty sturdy contender. MBR had the Fenix LD20 [180lumens] last month but said it wasn't much use if you were to use it on the trails.

So from there I've been looking at getting roughly the same finally output from lights and looked at the Electron Nano 9 [115lumens]and thought about getting two of them so that I didn't end up with a single point of focus on the trail.

All I'm after is a decent light that can help me see for 1-1.5hours on the trails which would be some small singletrack sections or South Downs Way types of track. I'm not expecting a flood light at the prices I'm looking at but then I don't want somethign that provides the same as a key ring torch.

What do you guys think?

have to be honest, the vision 1's have served me well. so good that i run 2 of them, 1 helmet and 1 bar mount. i think they would be ideal for what you're looking for. no problems at all. get 2-3 hours run time depending what setting, conditions. i use 2700mah batteries by the way as hope recommend

Do I need to say it........?

Yup, sounds like I do...

Dealextreme are your friend!

If you're riding offroad at night, there's no point in messing about with next to no light. And there's even less point paying over the odds for something that only puts out a modest amount of light, when for less money there's far better options out there!

Those tesco torches are poo as a bike light too. Compared to a genuine 240 Lumen torch, I'd guess they're about 60 Lumens or therabouts. Better than an old school maglight for sure, but not a viable bike light. And then, even a 240 Lumen torch/joystick/Hope Vision 1 is still inadequate when you can get a 900 Lumen light for under £50...

All IMO of course... 😉

A lot of people have said that the Vision 1 is a good unit but all have also said that they also use a helmet light too.

I had found Deal Extreme yesterday having looked at CandlePowerFOrums but I didn't notice the example you showed there probably as I was looking for removable betery ones. They do seem to be very well priced and their units get a review most of the time. I presume that you have this particular unit and that you're happy with it? I presume there's no problems with charging, I know last time I was in the states I was trying to use UK electrics and because of the voltage difference 4 batteries took 5 hours longer to charge. I would say it would be the opposite here but want to check [although the American ipods had no problems].

For a cheaper price that deal extreme one looks a good option I must admit.

dealextreme every time, i've got two 900 lumen torches and they are fantastic. Sturdy as well, as show when the 1 id zip tied to my stem came off and went bouncing down the fire road 🙄 , bit scratched but still working a treat didnt even crack the lens 😆

Actually no, I bought my lights a few months before this one was available sadly, but wouldn't hesitate to buy the DealExtreme bike light if I had to buy a new light now. I have got a P7 torch which I use on my helmet from them though, which is the same LED/emitter as in the specific bike light they sell, and I'm chuffed with it. It chucks out an awesome amount of light for the price.

Do you have to pay any import tax or anything extra on top of that price?
