[Closed] Another £4000 build on eBay

WTF are you lot arguing about ?

owner of bike advertised it on ebay, quoting RRP as context to pull up the price. I don't see too much wrong with that (esp if he actually paid that 😯 )

now you're off saying it's (and he's) stoopid to put RRP on a forum sale. Even if it is a daft thing to do here, this bloke didn't post on here did he ?

it's worth what somebody pays for it but I'm willing to believe it "is" a 6 grand build

Ah, well, err ...

(OP link was to ebay, in my defence 😳 )

I still don't see that it's somehow wrong to say what you paid for it - as long as you're truthful ("dream" bit was a bit over-egged for here, mind - I suspect that's in the lower half of stw steed/sled/rig values)

I was sad enough to do this!
I know your going to read this
Bear in mind the forks were new model when i got them so no discounts were applied thats the missing £400 so even with CRC discount its still £6000 to build this bike.
Dont forget to include the £2500 frame

You are selling second hand goods with no warranty.

If the frame gives way, it is worthless to the buyer. You can't just take the bike to the dealer if things go wrong.

General rule of thumb for second hand bikes is half price less 10% per year. If you want to sell it.

if that's an XL and he needs that much seatpost showing he must be about 9ft tall...

T'husband has a similarly bonkers amount of seatpost showing on his Meta and also used to on his Mojo:

[img] [/img]

He's 6ft 7.

That's my fairly useless contribution to this thread. Carry on!

My seat post also looks like a mast as well, get over it...

I'd drop it for adverts and drops. But I really can't pedal 500m on a low saddle

2009 GT total respect!

Compared to this guy. The £4000 Carbon blur looks like excellent value!

iF YOU'RE EXPECTING SOMEONE

(sorry caps lock got stuck on)

If you're expecting someone to pay £4000 for a bike then would it not be a good idea to proofread the advert before submitting and then maybe correct the spelling mistakes/grammatical errors?

And just the one picture? How tight is that!

Yes i agree about the grammatical errors!
as for pictures i begrudge paying Ebay, they fleece you just like a 'Drive-thru'.
As for being tight er did you not see how much i paid for my bike!

Thank god some tall people have joined in (mrs toast) i was feeling like i had a bunch of terriers at my feet. Blinkin midgets. 😀

FTFY! thanks for that aracer i thought it was going to be something much worse!!! and yes now i have riden it it is now used.

You 'spent' £6k on a bike, yet don't want to pay eBay an extra 50p (or something) for some better quality photos?

The mind boggles...

Oh well, entertaining thread all the same...

Mrs toast's picture says it all. The seat post is so ridiculously long the saddle wont fit in the picture! How tall is it? Or is it one of these:

By the sounds of it i think most people on this forum ride that sort of bike!
RRP £60000 i reckon so
it even comes with a basket for your bike mags so you can read about the bikes you cant afford.

Get them to confirm it on a piece of paper you can hold in your hand, or your word is worthless.

the warranty is in place and is confirmed and the buyer of the frame will have it in his or her hand.

I like 2009gt, he's holding his own against the baying mob, who are beginning to sound a bit silly.

I can't see what the problem is quoting full retail price in an ebay ad as a comparison.
Isn't that pretty much what Wiggle do, "10% off everything this week only", er, yes, but that's 10% off RRP, not off the final price. I'm a platinum customer, I get 12% off anyway.
And CRC "From £5". Fine if you want a XXSmall in pink or a 5 speed shifter. All the normal stuff is still £50.

I'm writing to Mat Allwright http://www.bbc.co.uk/watchdog/gotastory/
and and ANNE WOBINSON! and my MP!

How dare someone try to sell something and get a decent price for it.

What's a platinum customer? Is you like Posh'n'Becks? Do they open up early for you to peruse the virtual isles? 😉

It's 12p to add each extra photo on eBay. You could argue whether in this case it would be throwing good money after bad or an essential to the sale though.

Actually, its free if you host them on Photobucket and do a bit of html.

Binners, http://www.wiggle.co.uk/h/Option/PersonalDiscount
"Platinum Customers receive an exclusive 12% discount off the list price of all products that have not already been discounted. "
However,if you look at http://www.wiggle.co.uk/cycle/ for example, you'll see that most items are reduced by more than 12% off RRP anyway, so it's not that good really.

i dont see a baying mob, certainly not by internet forum standards where everyone has a sharpened pitch fork to hand. A few of us have had a debate about the relevance of quoting RRP in adverts, I think its irrelevant others disagree, and 2009gt seems to no longer be taking it personally and joined in the banter. I thought forums were supposed to host and provoke debate, no topic too trivial?
