I seem to have developed one of those annoying squeaks on my bike, that you get every now and then. Like just about every squeak I've ever had it sounds like it's coming from the bottom braket area (but I suspect that it's not).
It's intermittent so hard to pin down but it's there pedaling or freewheeling. I reckoned I'd got it tracked down to the seatpost/saddle area but then it started when I was out of the saddle, it doesn't seem to be there (yet) when I'm stood up but it is there if I'm out of the saddle but hanging over the back wheel. It doesn't seem any more frequent or audible pedaling hard than it is spinning. Like I said, it's intermittent and the whole process of isolating the squeak wasn't helped by some birds in the hedgerows who seemed to be making odd squeaks themselves (which also seemed to come from the bottom bracket). I don't seem to be able to recreate the squeak back home off the bike.
I've tried the obvious, the pedals are tight in the cranks, the cranks are up to torque of the BB. There are no lose spokes on the back wheel and I've sprayed GT85 on the saddle rails. The only thing I've changed recently is to fit an anti-chainsuck plate, but that's nice and tight and butted up against the bottom bracket shell and I can't imagine that there'd be much flex there - could it be that that's squeaking?
There was a fair amount of spray about today and even small amounts of cack on the rotors can make some really odd sounds, so it could have been that.
I'm hoping that the squeak will vanish, but if not, what else should I try?
Probably not, but have you got a rear hub with a big rubber seal on the disc side? These have been known to squeak intermittently, a drop of lube on the edges usually stops it.
