[#7136450]

Late last year I put an entry in for an event in August.
Event sold out very quickly, and the waiting list is full.
Just found out that due to a conflict I won't be able to attend, so fire off an email to the organisers apologising, and asking what the correct course of action is- since there's a waiting list I presume they'd rather me surrender the entry to them than flog it.

The reply gobsmacked me- they have a policy of no refunds and no transfers, but as a GESTURE OF GOODWILL ISNCE IVE let THEM KNOW SO EARLY they'll give me 50% of the entry back.

What the ****?

SO much fro northern hospitality.
Nowhere on the website that I can see does it mention this policy.
And whats the point of having one like this anyway. Never have I had a request to pass on an eevent entry refused.
And what's the point of having a wait list if you're not prepared to transfer entries? Are you going to double bank entry fees when people have to pull out?
It's crap really, how difficult is it to change an entry name- it's not like they're having to reprint numberplate or team jerseys, is it. Five minutes work should sort it, I'd have been happy to pay a tenner, but to say that there's NO refund then add INSULT by saying that they're returning some money as ****ing GOODWILL. Not as a refund, but goodwill.

From the website:

Fair play and common sense are the main *********** rules.

Bullshit they are.

Nice rant. I particularly like the mixed up capitalisation, which has also confused your spell-checker.

Pretty poor not to offer a full refund though, especially as its over-subscribed. Could you not sell it on to someone else?

Fair enough woody, buried in the small print with all the safety shit. If you're going to market an event 9 months in advance, especially one that'll sell out how about putting it in nice big letters on the entry page.

Doesn't answer any of the other points tho.

pedantry.

I acknowledged I'd missed it, fine.
What's the point of the policy then. And is it fair?

I'm sure I remember reading that you could cancel for a 10% admin fee, obviously I'm wrong!

So there's a waiting list for non-transferable places 😐

...and these 'non-transferable' places only come up if dropouts accept the goodwill gesture of 50% refund

All very well saying refer to T&Cs you've agreed to but seems harsh particularly when there's a waiting list...yes there's the admin of swapping places from one rider to another but it comes with the territory with these type of events as there is always dropouts from injury, illness etc

Same boat here, was quite amused at them offering as gesture of good will when as say will now resell place due to massive oversubscription. Happy for there to have been an admin fee but to make like doing me a favour! Notified them 3 weeks ago, hardly last minute.
But as above is in the terms, just find pretty poor form. If had known this would happen mate would have done it under my name/ changed details on SI entries as told same - no transfer possible or would rather not turn up to save them running out of good will.

Seems to be fairly standard for events. Doing the Outlaw triathlon next month, that one doesn't even have a waiting list, they factor in the expected number of dropouts and over subscribe it in the first place. They do however have a refund policy, but it depends how close to the event you drop out
