[#2032719]

received these 'tubeless' wheels today but no valve included. there is a plastic rim strip. called rutland, they said call the 'web guys' tomorrow. do i have to run a stans/notubes rimstrip? if so then this is not clear in the advert. having splashed 400 sniffs i am thoroughly underwhelmed by a 10 day wait for 'not tubeless wheels' anybody else got these wheels?

Just because they're tubeless doesn't mean you don't have to have a rim strip or spoke tape, its the same deal with stans rims.

Does it say in bike promos that you have to pedal to make them move? Just one of those things you're expected to know I guess.

not really. its not clear in the promo blurb. when you buy stans rims as i have in the past; it states that you need to buy the correct rim strip. other wheels i have had eg bonty and shimano tubeless, come ready with rimstrips

I have a bit of sympathy for oli2001 here

I'd expect wheels that needed a strip & valve to be described as 'Tubeless ready' in the title rather than 'Tubeless'
I would - however - have done a bit of research first

i read the advert on rutland's website. i also have some am classic standard wheels and expected the 'tubeless' to be different apart from the colour of the hub. nb i run a rim strip on the standard am classic. i went for the tubeless cos it has a wider rim.

Looked on American Classic and Eurobike websites and both state Tubeless ready with valves and rim tape for tubeless tyres.
I read this to mean they are supplied with the wheels.

Personally I would hold fire. If Rutland aren't playing ball I would give the importers, Eurobike, a call to find out what should be supplied with the wheels. You never know they may even send you the missing bits direct.
Nice wheels! Hope you get it sorted.

Should have been fitted with orange tape to seal the rim. Add a valve and you are ready to go.

Didn't see any valves in the sets I opened.

The wheels themselves don't come with the necessaries to make them tubeless. The ones we've sold at work have just come with a few spare spokes. They ought to make this clear in their advertising though!
You'll need the 25mm Stans yellow tape and some valves. The instructions for fitting the tape are on the Stans website.

The american classic tubeless wheels do not come with a tubeless valve. They are named tubeless because they have changed the rim to better suit a tubeless bead. If yours came with a clear yellow rim tape then leave that on as thats a tubeless tape, all you need to do is get a couple of stans valves.

They are very nice wheels too, spin very well 8)

update
Rutland have apologised, fair enough, will amend details of advert, fair enough. Apparently they didnt know that tape and valves were not supplied.
However, eurobike say they dont have tape or valves in stock; so rutland have offered full refund, fair enough.
Do eurobike know what their products require?( i dont think they do) as forum suggests stans valves will work ok with the plastic rimtape on the wheels.
