Has anyone got any views on American Classic hubs?
I've heard bits and bobs about the wheelsets but what about the rear hub in particular?

Seen one second hand with 9mm QR axle would I be able to change this to 12mm if necessary?

Easy to change bearings and service?

I want a hope pro II because of a) axle adaptability b)seems easy to service with plenty of spare parts and help out there c) noise ๐Ÿ˜‰
but if this american classic fits the first two of those then I might drop the cash.

American Classics are great, Strip down really easy and the way the rachet works is cool and different too.

Downsides:
Rachet wears really quickly
You've gotta find a dealer to supply the parts
Standard bearings are POO!

But they're good quality wheels and to be honnest all OE bearings are shocking.

Upside to Hope is in 10 years time when you need an Axel or some Pawls, they'll custom make it for you!

I'd reccomend a Hope set because of ease of getting bits but you wouldn't be making a bad choice getting a AC.

Up to you really But i'm sure most of the people on here'd say Hope too, just beacuse theyre so industrial and easy to use/repair.

Oi, Nonk.
Try stripping it and giving it a good clean. Use a thicker oil rather than a thin grease on the rachet.

Wet lube or something similar.

I agree too but the only downside to this wheelset I've seen is this rear hub - you can probably guess what the front hub is.
Shame.

Can I swap axle sizes or is it stuck at 9mm?

The front ones are swappable from QR to 15mm, only a couple of the rear hubs are swappable though, most are stuck at QR.

Got any pics of the hub in question?
