[Closed] Am I really this numb? SRAM chain/cassette (roady kit) noisy, chain too wide?

Hi all,

I have just installed a SRAM 970 cassette and a 971 chain.

Raceface cadence crank. Ultegra levers and mechs.

The chain seems to 'rub' or catch on the inner most cog. Despite whatever gear is chosen, it's still noisy. What gives? Chain width is standard, it's a 9spd setup, it always has been.

Any suggestions would be very much appreciated!

Cheers,
Jt

Not trying to be rude but have you threaded the chain correctly through the rear derailer (the right way through the metal bits) also is the b screw adjusted properly(sheldons website is ok for an explanation)

Hi mate,

Yeah, chain is fine thru the mech,.. It just seems too wide on the cassette. I've replaced 10's of drivetrains over the years, and this is the only one I've had issues with.

I don't know if road chains are different to MTB?

Was thinking a 10sp chain? But good god, how difficult can it be???

Try sighting it up from the rear to see if your mech hanger's bent, this can cause lots of strange noises, often accompanied by poor shifting at only one end of the block.

Which Ultegra mechs? 6500, 6600 or 6700, only 6500 are 9 speed, the others are 10 speed
