[#1133271]

I was looking at the above, with the slot drop-out, but they're out of stock.

So, what alternative? I'm looking for a 100mm adjusted light-weight aluminium XC type frame to set up as a SS. And it has to come in a 14" frame, as I'm a short-arse!

Most importantly it's gotta be cheap too?

Anybody have any knowledge of the Dirty Jo bikes?

As always, advice welcome,

Alex

have you had a look in the classifieds, there is a 15" spot hardtail that looks awesome that is rather bling and will build into a top bike!!

Yeah, I thought about 15" bikes, there's a used DMR that looks nice too, but I really do need a 14" frame, little legs!

C'mon, there's got to be a lightweight SS frame for the 'shorter' rider.

I'd have a look at the standover heights rather than just saying 14", it also depends where the frame is measured c-c or c-t. I range from 17-19" frames depending on the make and model.

You're right tazzy, but to tell the truth my inside leg is only 26", so even the 14" 456 I ride for the bigger downs is a little snug 🙁

OK, maybe this was a big ask.

So, what lightweight XC frame, slot drop outs, 26" standover?

old style SC Chameleon or a Whyte 19?

but just get a slot inbred. its not going to weigh the earth at that size and the geometry is the same (afaik)

Mmm, inbred OK, but I really liked the LW Scandal.

SC WAY too expensive, and the Whtye is too big, that standover could easily make me a soprano...

Just built this for my missus, weighs 22lb, OK so its not got gears, but they would only add a couple of pounds. The bare frame weighed 4.8 lbs against the Scandal's 3.5ish so not a massive amount of difference and quite a £££££ saving.

Dirty Jo bikes are alright, had one for a few years, but it hasnt got slot dropouts, and still has V brake bosses so its not as neat looking.... Ride alright though and you could use a tensioner for SS.

Check out the handsome dog XC303 if your not fussed about such things as above its the same frame as far as I can see, but looks nicer paintjob, also worth looking at the arrow disc as it loses the V brake bosses.

ps smuzzy your wifes bike rocks..

alex, I would holdout until a Scandal comes along, I ride one, non slot and its ace.

Smuzzy, you're a gent. I've got a 14" 456 already, so I know what a great bike it is, looks like a really nice build you've got there too.

Thanks anyway, and I'll keep a look-out for you in the Peak.

Tinsy, I've loked at both those frames, the real deal-breaker is the vert. drop-out. I already have a tensioned SS, I'm really after a frame I can run without. They look like great bikes though, and what bargains!

uess I'm waiting for a Scandal then, unless there's other suggestions out there?

Just wait for the Scandal if its sub 3.5lb slot dropout frame you after at about £200 your options are limited. I was in almost the opposite position as all I could buy was a slot and I wanted a vert! I bought 2nd hand in the end, they build into a fast bike, and its not just the weight of it thats fast, they seem to transmit any power you have to back wheel, I had a Tinbred, same weight, same geometry, but the Scandal is faster.

There is a bonus to running SS vert dropout with a tensioner as its less faff to fix a rear punture.
