After having had a minor melt down trying to get it out then back on, the retaining clip on brake caliper pins. I am no doubt doing it wrong but is there an alternative item out there that's easier. Yes I know I have now lost man points...
Join the club 🙁
I've used a pair of pliers and pushed the long straight part in to the hole (ooerr!) then twisted towards the pads so that the loop ends up around the pin. I've only managed it twice so can't be sure that's what I did!
Paper clip
small pair of pliers, quick twist and shove and bob's your mothers brother.
I don’t use them, the bolt stays in fine without.
You can get little R clips which are easier to take off and put on.
I tried to find an R clip to fit ... with no success ...
Ah so I'm not quite a failure of a man. R clips look a good bet.
Either just don't bother with them or twist a bit of thin lockwire if you are worried about it coming undone.
Personally I just use the clips, they aren't that hard unless your eyesight is a bit dodgy
There is a knack to doing them and its counterintuative. Hard to describe tho. its a push and twist motion
push the wire through the hole till it hits the pin. then roll the loop over the end of the pin.
simples!!
I'm planning on doing some fettling on a set of Hope brakes this evening so I'll try and remember how I do things. I might even take some shots 😉
10-12mm of paperclip, bent round.
