We're heading out for a spin tomorrow morning and have just been out to the garage to resurrect the chains on the bikes having put them away muddy after the pre-Xmas run. Chains are as expected solid so grabbed the chain lube but it managed a single drop before giving up.
A quick scan of the garage gives me 3 vaguely sensible options, wd40, suspension oil or float fluid.
Recommendations please?

Wd40
Don't use motor oil, splattered everywhere, not good for rotors.
In the old days some folk just used wd40 as it did not pick up mud/dust and just wiped off.
