[Closed] Alps-proof 29er rim recommendation?

Looking to upgrade my rims to something a bit wider and tougher than the Arch EX rims I've got at the moment, any recommendations? Flow EX looks like the best bet at the moment, but wondered if anyone had anything else they'd recommend for a 2 month alpine road trip? Need to be tubeless compatible and not carbon.

These should do the job, nice and burly so I can finally ride my 29er as fast as I want to. Flexy wheels were holding me back a bit before.

Same quoted weight and width as a Flow EX, I believe.

Tubeless was easy. I was tempted by carbon but glad I went for good old alu in the end. No worries about shattering them on the rocks.

Any idea whether I'd be able to take the decals off? Hoping they're just simple stickers rather than transferred on 🙂

Halo vapours are pretty good and take a beating i used them on my surly ogre for loaded off road touring as well as a smash the rock garden wheelset and both sets have come out as true as they went into them

Wtb i23s have been pretty good for me, stiffer than arches. I think the i25s would be pretty bombproof.

Why not carbon?
Your relativley light aren't you Sam? And you didn't seem like a bike smasher when we rode with you.

Look like just stickers so should come off no bother.

I've briefly looked at this and there is a spank rim that looks like a good option though I forget it's name. I have the i23 at the moment but only on my xc hardtail so yet to use them in any demanding manner

Mainly because I'm an extremely poor student saving up for two months in Europe Singlespeedstu, and I like the idea of a rim I might be able to straighten the ding out of rather than cracking it. Having said that, if there's a cheap wide strong carbon rim I'd consider it. I might be asking for the moon on a stick there though.

In that case do you want a pair of second hand white Flows for £35?

Possibly, what internal width and hole count?

32 hole and what ever internal width the original flows were.
Can't be arsed to go out to the garage and measure them. 🙂

Sounds good, cheers Stu! Was just checking to make sure they were no narrower than my current rims, I won't notice the width difference but the strength difference will be appreciated when I go through rocks too fast.

Will do 🙂 Happy to do the same for North Wales if you fancy a steepy steep midweek jaunt.

Personally I'd be looking at Sunn-Ringle MTX 31's. Sunn make the Stans rims but focus on strength and durability rather than weight.

At Bangor Uni, so I've now got an even better playground than I had at home 🙂
