I'm going to take myself off to the alps this weekend for a few days. Probably get there Sat morning, come back Monday night. Where is good to base myself as I'll take both road and MTB so I can ride both.

Morzine?

If you want a decent guided road ride with soom food and support and whatnot, get in touch with velovation.co.uk

As it's late in the season (ski lifts are closing/closed) I'd suggest Les Gets with Ski Blue Ridge, the owner Rob had done a decent amount of road biking and when we stayed with them last year there was a mix of roadies and mtb-ers. Les Gets and Morzine lifts are open later than most places and with a little effort you can ride less crowded/bashed up mtb trails.

Valloire - I've been there twice now.

Plenty of mountain biking (DH and well signposted XC) with lift assist (or not) to entertain you for a few days.

Road wise, you are at the top of the col du telegraphe and at the foot of the galibier - nip over the galibier, and you've got alpe d'huez and back doable in a day.

Les Gets and/or Morzine in my experience.
