My friend and I have planned to go to the Alps next week, and have left sorting plans a little late.
I have got my insurance sorted through Snowcard, however my friend is struggling to get himself covered due to having Crohn's disease. Has anyone got themselves covered with Crohns/ another medical condition successfully?
We're starting to panic!!
Mrs hoppy used to manage it with heart problems we've variously used snow card and dogtag. They may seek to exclude claims resulting from the condition though, and it probably won't be cheap.
Dogtag have favourable conditions if they've not required new medical care in the last couple of years.
I would imagine it's less of an issue for a disease like like that than other issues as the European health card would help in that case. I think pre-existing conditions is more of an issue if you have previous bone breakage and then break that bone again. Then an insurance complany could potentially wriggle out of the mountain rescue costs claiming your bones were more likely to break again.
Someone suggested these folks to me recently
I've not used them myself, but have heard that they were good to deal with
I've got Crohns, never had a problem getting insurance for the Alps. Have always used DogTag, and each time they did some extra (and pretty rudimentary) screening but that was it.
Stay sure will probably cover him for a cost. My single trip premier have been about £10 before I declare the prostate problems, then hey-presto £50 for a 5 day trip!
Snowcard should be fine. Here's there health page:

They probably won't cover the Crohns since it commonly requires fairly regular consultant visits, and most of the drugs used to treat it require at least monthly blood tests. However given the nature of the condition, its also not likely to land him in hospital at short notice.
I currently use an annual Dogtag family policy to cover family hols and an annual mtb trip to Spain. Currently my Crohn's is excluded from the policy meaning the policy is at the regular price. The last quote was a bit problematic because the Crohn's has misbehaved a bit in the last couple of years, hence I had it excluded.
I'm not too worried about this as my Crohn's has generally caused trouble slowly so in most circumstances I could get back home if trouble was brewing. Not necessarily recommending this approach but it works for me and it's important to me that Crohn's doesn't get in the way of my life anymore than absolutely necessary.
