Anything doing? We're going on a family holiday so might get to sneaky days riding
I've done a couple of days cycling up in the hills around Rethimno in Crete and a number of other islands. Crete is very very very mountainous with a lot of very poor and crazy steep roads once off the main routes but great fun.
Good maps are in short supply and google maps accuracy is woeful with lots of roads marked that don't exist and visa versa. Greek drivers are really courteous and laid back around cyclist so fairly safe despite the internet myth. If you're going in the late summer it gets hot so take a camelbak if you've got one.
I think Hellas bikes supply around Chania area.
Cheers Tony. I've been in touch with them too so I'll see what they come back with
Spent 2 weeks in Almyrida about 15 years ago. If memory serves me correctly the area immediately around Almyrida is rolling hills which gets much more mountainous once you get properly inland. I imagine there'll be lots of minor roads, tracks etc. to explore, so give yourself some time. Also, in mid-summer it gets hot - really hot, especially away from the coast and especially on any south facing hillside. Early morning would be best time.
Cheers Mike. As long as there's a cliff top track somewhere with a view of the med I'll be happy.
