I've almost finished my first build. Hardtail frame bought from here and mostly bits I had already but bought what I needed. Did it all myself very smugly and will soon feel confident servicing my main bike. One last thing though.....the gears. Need some cables; both inners and outers. Where do I get them from? Cheapest please.

I'll get some pics up once its done.

Any shop. Doubt you'll find a huge variety in price.

CRC XT outer cable cut to length.
BrandX Stainless steel inners.
And your LBS for ferrules cos CRC are a rip off at 50p each.

Go for Shimano XT grade or above is my advice.

Someone posted a link on here last wek for XTR cables at under £15. I'd find that link and go for those. If you can't find the link, get XTR anyway.

Local bike shop will be the best place. Don't forget the ferrules and those natty little things that crimp on the end of the cable.

Superglue on the cut end of the cable is best ime as it means that it never frays AND it goes through cable outer again and again if need be without snagging

When I worked in LBS xtr were a bit better than other shimano cables (teflon lined, fancy seals on outers) but the others were identical. The Madison rep admitted as much aswell.
