Hi I'm looking for some new rims for the mega, carbon being out of my price range I'm looking for some good alloy all mountain/ enduro currently i am running the standard SRAM roam 40 wheels they are mega light but more of an XC wheel set and my riding style is a bit too much for them. Any suggestions hope/dt Swiss/stans??????

DT EX471 or XM481 if you want a bit wider.

2nd vote for ex471, use it all the time to replace broken Stan's rims...

Don't use Ryde Trace Enduro rims, the beads are way too thin to sustain any kind of impact.

I've just got some DT EX471s.

DT or WTB (I was really knocked out by the Frequency I had, it wasn't that much heavier than the flow ex it replaced but it was bloody tough. Rode a flat down a load of la thuile just because I didn't want to stop, the tyre was trashed but the rim was barely even marked.)

I'm currently having some E13 TRS+ rims built, they're the new versions that are 28mm internal. Have had Arc's and dented the hell out of the rear, just riding my usual trails.. My old Arch EX was stronger!

Got a set of the Mk3 flows yesterday, really light and wide. Interested to see how they hold up.

EX471's

Had them built in February by Julies Cycles in Leicester (very good wheel builder). They've not need any attention at all, despite being abused on a regular basis (Bringewood, Bucknell, Antur Stiniong, Revolution Bike Park, BPW, Megavalanche, Morzine).

Have heard rim strikes numerous times and there are no dings (plenty of scrape marks though!). If I was riding Mavic or Stan's would have replaced the rims by now.

Had the very same dilemma. Went for the Flows, 'cos my LBS HATED building with the squorx nipples on the DT rims I got for the other bike, and it meant I could use supercomp spokes.

Plus the Flows were wider.

Still not sure I made the right call, but if I do break the flows I'll be back on DTs

After crackign one of my carbon rims, i am now running a pair of Arc 27's. Been great so far, gave them a good thrash around BPW the other day and they are sweet. My local Enduro "team" riders are now running them as well. I am very happy with them so far.

He means the ex511, which is in all fairness an ex471 just 5mm wider

EX471, if you want something crazy strong.

The Flows could have worked, but they have gone pointlessly wide.

New Arch Mk3 looks spot on though, if a touch light, but then there are plenty of wheelsets that use a rim that light for 'enduro'.

If I blow up my 1501 rims i'll replace them with Arch Mk3's.

M running ARC 30's on my hard tail and can't fault them so far; not dinged yet despite being an oaf and they hold air well tubeless.

I've had Easton rims in the past that have dented a fair bit but still set up tubeless without issue.

Following this with interest as my rear Hope Enduro rim is looking worse for wear. Two big dents in the bead lock after a messy day out mean it's losing air running tubeless over a few days. Had a proper hammering though ๐Ÿ˜€

Lot of love for EX471 then. Looking for something not too crazy price to keep my Mk2 Nomad going, with wheels for uplift days, alpine trips and the like. Any decent wheelsets I should be looking at with these?

I'm feeling the 30mm internal width but the dt ex 471 sounds like a winner

I wouldn't worry about it - people don't miraculously start going faster just because their rims are a few mm wider.

Well, other than the purchase justification brigade!

I've used 30mm wide rims and more recently back on rims with an ID of 23mm. Can I tell the difference? Not really. Do I go any slower? Nope.
