Looking for some new tyres for my xc/all mountain bike, At the moment I run High roller front, Lopes Bling Bling on the back and not really liking them, So would like to get some new ones.
What tyres are the best all round for all mountain?
Cheers
Jon
Depends on riding style, soil types, rock types and how you define all mountain
Been looking for tyres for the same sort of specification, eventually settled on continental rubber queen ust 2.2s. They seem to have a really good reputation. Managed to get them for £27 each as well.
You could also look into schwalbe alberts, but I heard theyre not too robust.

Riding style- errr, flat out sketchy.
Soil type - That why I say all round, as i really want a tyre that'll be alright for everything
Rock types - what?
How I define all mountain? - Pedal up the the top of a hill, then pin it back down.
Rock types - what?
classic, punk, alternative, funk, pop, etc.
Panaracer Rampage?
Jon - slightly facetious post from me.
I personally change tyres all the time on my bike depending where I am riding. It must be an "all mountain" bike as its my only bike and I ride everything from real mountains to flatland on it.
Tyres vary from Gazzalodis for carn ban mor last week to speedkings for flatland
Anyone tried maxxis advantage?
Oh and the panaracer look too much like kendas for my liking!
minion 2.35 front on both ends.
I'm really liking the 2.1 UST ADvantage that I've got on the hardtail. They come up really big for a 2.1 as well. Can't find any more though 🙁
I like the look of the 2.4 UST rubber queen by at over 1kg and nealy £50 each, I'm not that tempted!
Ground controls.
Actually, I'm coming to the end of a set of IRC Kujo 2.35". How I wish they still made those (or at least a lighter version).
If you can get them with a good deal as the rrp is just silly the UST Schwable Fat Alberts are excellent here in the lakes. They're great on rocks wet or dry and roll well in trail centres etc. Michelin Mountain Xtrem also very good in the lakes, just a little heavier.
Another vote for Rubber Queens here, except I supersized mine and went for a 2.4 on the front. Mahoooooosive, but very, very good for everything I've tried it on to date. Even helped me "float" across some of the sandy sections around Leith Hill at the weekend!
Schwalbe Albert protection 2.25 front with Mountain King 2.2 Protection on the rear.I like this combo tough and relatively lightweight and lots of grip. Cannot remember my last puncture on these!
Kenda Blue Groove 2.35 DTC up front and Nevegal 2.35 DTC out back, ghetto'd
As votchy although Stick-E Blue Groove on the front.
Haven't actually ran a Nev for awhile out back due to my twisted love affair with the small block 8...
I'm using some Intense Tyre Systems System 4 EX/DC Lite Dual Compound, and have been for a while now. Great tyres equally at home on the rocks, single track and dirt, they go up as well as they come down as well.
Not great in the gloop mind but I haven't really found a tyre that is yet ..
which high rollers are you using? and what pressures, mine were horrible at 30psi, gods gift to traction at 25-27.5 psi.
Im running 2.35 SPC 60a up front and its by far and away the best tire i've ever come accross, I swear theres more grip the further you lean into it!
Currently got a holyroller 2.4 (DPC, 60a, i think as they only mke one version) ont he back, fast as anything, and huge so it floats over rocks. Only problem is it tends to act as a ski when negotiating steep chutes, there is not braking grip, but cornering is adequate for a rear tire. Just bough a HR semi-slick off here to see how that compares, suspect it may be even faster (slicker center, knoblier edges).
2.1 HR's are pants IMO
