Do Aldi take debit cards or is it strictly cash only?

might pop to the local one at lunch time, fancy perhaps trying the "Waterproof lobster cycling gloves" the arm/leg warmers getting some more of their socks and maybe trying out the cheap HRM... oooh and there's a cheap microfibre towel which could be handy...

What a very middle-class Question, Bless...

They take all sorts of payment methods, including human organs*

*I might have made that last bit up...

well that went well. £85 lighter, thanks to a huge amount of beer, nuts and chocolate as well as some cycling gear (winter gloves and waterproof trousers for the canalside commute).

They do Thwaites' Wainwright Ale for £1.25 a bottle now. That cost me a bit...

If you sign over your firstborn they let you in half an hour early to get at the Thursday 'Special Stuff'

All Aldi's do this, right?

Ooh, that's my wife's favourite.

Lidl got Jennings Cumberland Ale for £1.25 from today BTW.

There's a £5 off £40 in the Mirror today too.
The downside being that you have to be seen buying the Mirror!

I haven't bought any of their cycling kit, but we do the weekly shop there.

GT85 £1.99 too and a few other bits and bobd

Here's a link to the cycling gear:

Very funny bru e. First rule of being a tight fisted git is - never spend your own money till absolutely necessary. Everything goes on the cc and is paid off just before it starts acruing interest. Mean while i earn pence on my money.

Anyway, maybe scottish lidl and aldi are different to english . I bought last weeks shopping in lidl as i wanted one of their cheap spray guns for spraying my chassis. Paid with mastercard.

Normal weekly shops in aldi though.

I got a pair of the lobster gloves, seem good. The other kit, while good value, isn't as good as branded stuff (esp chamois) and cut for fatties.

Cue stamnpede of STWers.

The tights used to be cut for really tall chubsters, but I gave up on them years ago due to the crappiness of the chamois as mentioned.

I remember the winter MTB tops were pretty good though.

Chocolate brioche, is great! Just back, blew a fiver on some winter gloves, cosy! Currently munching pastrami.

the chamois is far better than it used to be, it's now made with coolmax and shaped, but not as good as the chamois on more expensive gear - but it's not nearly as expensive. For a shortish (6 mile) commute, they're great

Just relieved myself of £80.

Some guy went in and cleared the whole stock of base layers, every size! I managed to get one he missed.

Mainly got socks....loads of them, plus a shirt and jacket. It means I can retire some of my (very) old winter kit.

Also a jacket and winter shirt. Not sure about the cut, a big baggy round the middle but hey, we'll see how they last.

There really should be a limit on the amount of items you can buy.

Personally found the HRM to be pretty poor and it died fairly quickly. Having said that if your an infrequent user and will only use it on a turbo trainer it might last a while longer.
The soft shell pack things are good rubbish for keeping you dry but keep the wind off well.

Anyone comment on what those lobster type gloves are like with STIs? Look a bit cumbersome.

Checked it out in stinky Stockport this morning.
cycling stuff is okay but ultimately pretty poor quality, gloves okay but I already have some awesome gore winter gloves so don't need them, might go for a helmet cover and some reflective spoke things. They did however have some wood cutterist bits. Axes and moisture meters (already got from lidl last week) and log splitter that looks interesting.
Couldn't be doing with the queue at the till so blow it off, kith pop back at lunch time.

in a mini-hijack, what's the manly-man forum opinion on the sds drill they've got next sunday - tolerably crap for a "just in case I have the need" purchase, or utter cack and missing essential functions (i.e. reverse function would've been handy)?

I've had the SDS itch for a while now, and have been haggling myself up to big-money brand name levels - if this isn't dangerously shit then mayhap I can scratch the itch and buy some bike toys with the change.

Have you not tried the chocolate brioche loaf?

Ours had a tear and share choc chip chinois brioche last week. I may have eaten most of it in one day.

Their waterproofs are fine for my short commute and save me ruining my 'decent' kit. The lights are surprisingly good and cheap enough to just leave on the bike once in the secure bike shed at work. I'm going to nip out this afternoon and get a second set.

Log splitters been done on here before , only thing it is good for splitting is its self. Fell apart within a few uses for those that dared. The axes are fine and i have a moisture meter from there my self.

Aldi shorts I bought in summer the chammies look exactly the same as my (admittedly a few years old now) endura shorts. Stitching doesn't seem the best, we shall see how they last.

Will see what they have left later, pretty sorted for clothing really, lobster gloves and waterproof socks may be worth a punt tho (and I seem to buy a softshell jacket every year with varying degrees of success)

Just popped in and bought a few bits:
Lobster gloves - Not sure I'll like them but cheap enough to try.
Normal winter gloves - My favourite winter gloves irrelevant of price.
GT85 - You can never have too much.
Spoke reflectors - Very useful for my winter road bike, last years are a bit grubby so time to replace.
LED lights - A very useful emergency backup light.
Socks - Look Ok and cheap enough to try out.

one of the 'performance' tops was out of the box and looked a lot less volumous than they used to be, I may have a punt on one if there are any left - I'll try the lobsters and socks if they are still there

spoke reflectors are ace for the commuter bike

the lycra shorts are getting cheaper quality, I avoid now..

Just back from the Newbury Store, lots of stuff still left 20 minutes ago, although Medium sizes kit looked to be getting low...

Got myself some Lobster gloves, commuter socks and arm warmers and that was enough really...

There were 8 or 9 people engaged in a sort of cycling kit frenzy, two guys were furiously sifting the gloves obviously looking for their sizes, one poor woman was leafing through all the stuff while her hubby at the other end was obviously reeling off a list of stuff she knew nothing about... Cycling special buy days at Aldi/Lidl are the best!

£1.49 tortellini for lunch, 31p gummy mix for afternoon sugar rush... Nice!

With the recommendations, it seemed churlish not to give the gloves a go. Got some waterproof socks, which seem indistinguishable from Sealskinz. We'll see. At half the price, why not? Stocked up on GT85 too. 😀

The trick with Aldi is to pick the right store. There was loads off stuff in the central Burnley store near work. Looking at the waistlines of the people waddling around, I guess that cycling isn't high on their to-do list. I know from experience that my local Aldi, at home, would have been cleaned out of all the cycling gear by 9.30 this morning.
