Just as the title says, any point using the credit card to buy a ticket or will ABTA / ATOL cover me just as well? I have the cash and using Debit card would be easier (one less card to take with me as you need to present it with the e-Ticket)

ATOL is no good to you unless you've bought accommodation or something else bundled with the ticket. ABTA is travel agents, so if you're buying direct from airline, doesn't apply.
