When doing the above can I just ignore the IFP reservoir, let the air out of the main chamber and just crack on as if it was a normal shock without a reservoir?
The SRAM tech doc indicates you have to do it.

Yep just pretend it's a fox air can, though iirc you need grease rather than float fluid.
