Hi all,
I am hopefully going to Afan this weekend, but wondered what the conditions are like there ? The weather forecasts say its been sunny all week and will stay dry for the weekend, hopefully it will be worth the 3 1/2 hour drive.

Any info appreciated.

Bert.

It never really gets too muddy on any of the trails apart from the run to A Ridge too Far (I think) on Penhydd. It has been dry here all week so I reckon there'll not be many puddles, a couple of crisp days - you should have a lovely time. Hidden Valley on Penhydd was closed last week and I don't think it will be open this week. Enjoy.

I was there two weeks ago and it was fine, despite recent dodgy weather.

like Paulio says, most of those trails are fairly weatherproof. You may get wet, but the riding will still be ace.

Ok, thanks guys. Will definitely be going on Sunday then. Its my first time going and I was planning on doing Whites level and Penhydd, due to the closure on Penhydd do you think I would be better of doing the Wall instead ?

Thanks.

Whites and the Wall together is signposted as the W2 trail and is a cracker, you can stop at Glyncorrwg for a spot of lunch half way around. It may be a bit muddy right at the top but nothing too bad. You won't be disappointed whichever of the trails you do at Afan or Glyncorrwg.

The closure on Penhydd is only a small section (albeit a good one). Most of the route is still open, including the fab Dead Sheep Gully.

Penhydd (pronounce it Penheeth if you don't want to sound like a numpty) is lots shorter than the other big-name routes at Afan (Say Avan, not Affan, for gawd's sake...), so Penhydd's good to 'top up' your day if you have an hours and a half left at the end of your day. I recommend it.

It'll be fine, I went around there 2 weeks ago a tiny touch mucky in places but then it is Feb.

I'm sure after 2 weeks of fairly dry weather it'll be nie on bone dry.

I did a night ride at Cwmcarn on Thursday and was amazed it was like high summer quite dusty it was a nice change having dusty stantions ๐Ÿ˜†

Weather looks great today - there will be no rain - Derek says so!!!
