Ohh Dear, another tyre thread... ๐Ÿ˜ณ

Have a pair of Crossmarks that I like for dry weather riding, but they're on mrs rkk01's bike at the moment (I could steal them back).

My "normal use" tyres over the past 3-4 years have been Nobby Nics, but considering other options

Advantage looks more suited as a rear ?? with the big transverse "paddles" is this right, or would a Crossmark rear, Advantage front work well?

Ardent looks more like a front profile...

Then again, the Aspens look nice and quick...

Any thoughts. Not keen on slow rollers, like predictable breakaway (can't stand unpredictable tyres)

Aspen = light, grippy, quick but fragile sidewalls.

I'm enjoying my Ardent EXOs 2.25, mainly because they don't really surprise and have just the right amount of volume and puncture protection to weight ratio.
There are lighter faster tyres, but the Ardents roll quite nicely.

I keep thinking of having a crossmark 2.1 on the rear in the summer though. I've never tried them.

Just about everyone I ride with has Advantages, so YMMV

Liking the sound of the Aspens...

... any conditions they don't like particularly (ignoring Mayhem style mud)

Running tubeless, I have an Ardent on the front & Crossmark (exception series) on the rear. Great for grip and handling, if I do need a bit more traction at the back I let a little bit of air out. usually run around 40psi and go as low as 30psi.

How do Ardent vs Advantage compare as a front?

I ran advantage front and rear on my old bike, great for grip, but seemed to pick up thorns with magnetic properties.

I would not say they roll as fast as a Crossmark or possibly Ardent though.

I got on really well with ADvantage F+R, or ADvantage front with something REALLY paddley rear for winter.

Currently running Aspens, really like them too but have had a couple of wee scares when I've braked too hard on wet grass (would probably have happened to any tyre) or when I've not really commited to the edge of the tyre on greasy surfaces. If you're lazy in the corners I reckon the Aspen could have you on your ass more than once.
