Using this as a guide but any tips from folk who've done this?
Just do as it says.
Dead easy to do.
So, that works on 29er Reba's and not just 26er ones? No mention specifically of 29er Reba's in the article and I'd rather know before I take my forks apart...
it def works on 29 but no idea about 26 sorry, cheers stu
Cheers, it's 29er ones I've got so that's a job for tonight I think 🙂
did mine in around an hour - manual is here
http://www.sram.com/en/service/rockshox/tech_manuals.php
my spacer had to come off the end (ie was not a snap on) so circlip pliers needed (2009 reba sl 29er)
nice and clean, take your time, and prob need some extra fluids unless you are v careful as you'll spill some.
they are a much nicer fork at 100
cool cheers for that, going to order some red rum and fork oil from crc
should make a nice break from studying 🙂
Bugger! Would've been a doddle except for the valve core on the neg chamber being stuck in place. Everything else was OK but i couln't remove the little ****er. Well, the forks at least got a lower leg service.....
hi
anyone want to sell there 20mm spacer i want to drop my travel.
regards thwang
that sucks a11y, hmm i hope it works for me
fontmoss: my advice would be before disassembling your fork, try and remove the valve core. I made the mistake of taking the lower legs off before trying to remove the valve core, doh. Waste of my time as I'd only done a lower leg service on the forks about 5 rides ago...
I need a better valve core removal tool. I've got a few spare valve cores so am willing to give it a try again at some point. I reckon the forks would be ideal for the bike at the bigger travel setting (on a GF Rig).
i need a better valve core removal tool
what did you use? im slightly concerned by my lack of tools
There's a proper tool for the removing the centre of air valves - I'm not tubeless, but I'd guess a lot of folk who are would need them for removing the centres when sticking their sealant in.
Mine was a silly little plastic one, but I think proper ones are probably like a flat-bladed screwdriver but with a split in the centre of the blade (to miss the centre pin).
i just use pliers for the valve core in my tubeless bits, my oil hasnt appeared so cant try it out today anyway 🙁
Maybe I'm being a tit, but why would you want to remove the valve core to adjust the travel 😕
Maybe I read the guide wrong, but reading this stage:
"Use a thin rod to carefully push the air piston out of the top of the left leg."
I was under the impression you push something long and thin through the neg air chamber valve, in order to push the air piston out of the top of the left leg???
I could be wrong though, because I can't think of anything that would work. I can't see any other hole to push up through though...

No you push the whole assembley out the top of the leg.
You need to remove the whole valve, not the core.
Oh bugger, I'm being a right idiot! I'll have another go at it soon...
Finally done it last night 😳
Wasn't helped previously by not having the Rock Shox service instructions, and lacking circlip pliers. Really easy job once I had the instructions and correct tool!
The guide originally posted is slightly incorrect in that you push the air spring componenent out of the bottom of the leg, not the top. Plus there was no mention of the circlip holding it in, but this is really obvious once you've got the forks in bits.
