When you are using drop bars with BB7s you do not have the adjuster that the flat bar lever provides. It's almost impossible to find old fashioned drop bar levers with adjusters these days, and if you're using gears, impossible.
There's a simple cure. Take a V-brake noodle with the built-in adjuster and cut as shown:

This is the result:

All it needs is a bit of shrink fit to keep muck out.
You could use an in-line adjuster, but I prefer my adjusters at the end of the cable.
I prefer to use ordinary inline adjusters at the lever end. In fact, Avid even supply them with the road BB7s.
Don't really get why you need these if you get the cable tension right to start with then use the red adjusters to compensate for wear. I've been using them for about 4 years now (admittedly mostly on road where pad wear is less of an issue than off road) and have never needed to adjust the cables.
I don't recall getting adjusters with my Road BB7s. In any case I think placing them anywhere on the cable but a straight line compromises brake performance.
Cables do settle after initial use and this provides a tool free way of taking up that slack.
(I've been using BB7s for over 8 years and am familiar with correct adjustment.)
And I think you're talking bollocks - but hey ho, Avid only design, manufacture and sell them, so what would they know?
When I bought my roadie secondhand it came with crosstop levers with barrel adjusters on. The levers are very handy sitting up in traffic and the adjusters have come in handy too on gritty rides to dial out the grinding on the rim. Like your thinking though.
Which part is bollocks? Please explain your problem.
Where is there any criticism of Avid? I like and have been using BB7s for a long time. And I definitely did not get adjusters with my road BB7s - I have just checked the box to see if there were any hidden in it.
Avid obviously can see a use for adjusters seeing as they supply adjusters with their road BB7s these days, so what exactly is wrong with coming up with a solution for those of us who did not get adjusters?
bodgetastic!
another tick but not to all tastescrosstop levers with barrel adjusters
use the red adjusters to compensate for wear.
is the best way, but I like that modification.
I use an inline adjusters on the front...allows me to swap to a caliper brake if need be.
I can't say I've noticed any compromise in performance.
You need to use the inner red adjuster at lease in any event.
Really not worth BATTLING over guys (yes I'm aware of teh ironing).
In-line adjusters were included with the last pair of BB7s I bought.
Really not worth BATTLING over guys
Al, ssshhhhh
druidh - he's dissing you, maaan !!
I'd say druidh started it. He's such a meanie.
I figure anyone using BB7s for road use would have fitted them themselves - there's not many bikes come with them - and so would already be familiar with the use and purpose of the red adjusters. They are after all what makes the BB7 so useful.
I have them fitted on my BB7 Road brakes, they came in the box.
Can't say i've had cause to use them yet though.
