I think I remember once seeing a device that was two star flanged nuts and a bit of cable. One went in the seat tube, the other in the seat post. The saddle could still but adjusted up and down but no one could nick it. It's just what we need for the pool bikes at work.

Anyone know what/where these things might be or did I dream it?

chain with a lead weight covered in araldite on one end, drop it into the seat tube then do the same with the seat post, shoudl deter the casual thief and annoy the bejesus out of anyone riding by making godawful noises?

The one I remember was a star fangled nut in the seatpost, connected to a cable with a bung at the end. This was lowered, and then you replaced one of the bottle cage bolts with a longer one that the bung sat under.

AlasdairMc, that would also work fine. Any idea if anyone still does them?

we need to keep the quick release facility for liability reasons. That way, no one can sue for the saddle being the wrong height and damaging knees. If I don't find this item, we end up with bog chain clamped to the saddle and the frame!
