Hello,

I suffer from acid reflux during racing (feels like a bubble in my chest), it's annoying and releatively painful.

Does anyone else suffer from this? and... does anyone have any tips on combatting it?

Thanks

Butty

so in summary buttscratcher it seems your solution is likely to be pharmaceutical. I certainly wouldn't suggest anything daft like changing your diet

Are you using lots of "sports drinks" containing a lot of glucose / maltodextrin? they can cause heartburn

If I'm going out for a big ride on a sunday I tend to avoid getting lashed up on the saturday... helps with my reflux! Diet does play a bit part in reflux and I also get it from drinking too much energyfluid/energy gel. Don't really get it if I take a banana and squash with me.

I've had this, get it with running too. Best things for me are the obvious like not eating too close to riding (although I seem to be fine if I've ridden for a while and then have a snack).

The other thing which really helps me, i mean really helps is to chew chewing gum whilst riding/running - give it a go

if it's reflux a diet change won't solve it...not without healing the damage done by the acid. I've been dealing with this issue for a few years now, nexium really seems to help me out. prob the only thing that does, but I've got it pretty bad. prevacid is prob the best OTC here in the states, try it out if you can (not sure whats available in your area tho)...hope this helps

I've found caffeine to be a trigger and most energy drinks and gels are loaded with it. Sometimes eating bananas followed by too much water can cause bloating. The most effective prevention I've found so far is smaller meals/less food in general...
