Savings seem to be in the finish, the fancy machined patterns aren't there, but that's about all, probably a shade heavier

As above, looking at the standard version, it's clear you could save a fair bit in machining with a simpler design. Add in CRC related volume and you've got a goer at a lower price.

TBH I think I prefer the smoother finish of the cheaper version.

Or CRC just get them made in wheatever Tiawanese factory they get a lot of their stuff made in, and pay for the name and CAD file?

Probably - I note that they don't state that they're made in the same place as the AB ones. Seems sensible to me.
