Conflicting reviews of Middleburn, Shimano etc

Any advice before I splash the cash is appreciated?

Last time I needed new grannie and middle I got deeply unglamorous Shimano steel. Not sure why on earth I didn't do it sooner - they work exactly the same, weigh a mere few grammes extra, cost peanuts and last much longer.

Shimano steel are cheap and tend to last quite well and shift well. Shimano aluminium tend to be made of cheese and don't.

I've found middleburn last quite well though never noticed any significatn difference with the hardcote ones so don't bother paying the extra.

Ah, saved me writing this post! Does anyone know what number middle ring is the steel one? I'm after a 36T
M510? M530? M532? 😕

And do all 4 bolt / 110 bcd fit my LX/Hone HT2 cranks?

Cheers

510 is the older non-hollowtech II*, 530 is the newer hollowtech II.
St Johns cycles had all three deore rings going for £20 the other week.

*though it was hollowtech 😛

Blackspire Super Pro rings seem to work well for me.

7075-CNC Chainrings, fits most 4 arm chainsets[/url]

Bargin and they shift better than the std middleburns!

Trust me - once you've fitted them you'll never look at them again anyway. Spend the difference on something you can see and touch, like a good saddle or grips.

the last lad I bought a drive chain for, asked me this when I suggested the Middleburn slickshift/hardcote as an alternative: "will they last 3 times as long" (as they're 3 times the cost)... I couldn't gaurantee they would, so he had the deores.
