I've got a beautiful Cotic Rocket but more often than not I still reach for the hardtail.

Production Privee Shan

...and the Oka before it still in 'vintage style' 26".
[img] [/img]

Thinking I might go back to the Oka as I'm feeling a little cramped on the Shan. Stunning hardtail though.

Loving what little use I've had out of the Shan, but just lost the bolt through axle and the KS Lev has seized, so won't be getting used for a bit

Love my Slackline Ti...tend to ride it locally and use the FS for rougher stuff.

Keep contemplating a Sherpa though seeing OP's Ti has really made me lust one...how much fun is it compared to the Switchback you had?

I love my Sherpa, my only issue is trying not to buy a mk. 2 so that I get the better tyre clearance. It's my only niggle with the mk. 1 frame. As soon as the wheel is anything but true it rubs.

You can keep your fluro plastic fantastic enduro bouncing skills compensatory devices. After 10 years of riding dual end squish bikes I have gone back to hardtails all round. My 4 bikes which will be kept for a good while yet:

I think seeing a guy in my town with a dekerf generation started it all for me. It was just stunning! The seat stays were perfect!

Would love to build up something now but I'm pretty skint!
On the look out for a frame

Took this round the 4 passes yesterday and I actually enjoyed it! Here it is on a slightly easier ride out that I did on Saturday.

My 456 evoII around Llandegla a few weeks ago.

Rides far better than any other hardtail frames I've had (with same components), including a C456, Soul, Zaskars, Piglet and a few others.

Only running 120mm Sids so not exactly burly.

Just feels right, although I do admitedly still prefer full suspension for my main bike.

Still love my Genesis iO iD, pretty much my do-it-all (within reason bike) that I can ride 20 miles to a trail, do 20 miles off road and then ride the 20 on the road back home.

Stock, save the Vaults and Vans, it’s been utterly faultless over 3 and a bit years. Photos never do its colour justice either but it’s the most properly lovely shade of metallic cherry red in the sunshine too.

It’s such a shame that Genesis dropped it from their range. 🙁 It would’ve been ripe for an update in the Slackline or FASTFORWARD vein… a bit longer, bit slacker. 🙂

+1 for the hardtails. Currently building up a Bfe. . Can't wait to get out on it.

Bikes are just cool anyway.

bungalistic - would love to hear your thoughts on the Shan GT. Are you running 29 or 650b+ tyres?

What size is it?

I've just got home from the first ride in ages on my full susser and it made me realise how much more I enjoy riding my hardtail.

Thanks Vegas. Have to say it seems really nicely detailed and has loads of clearance at the rear

I'll second science officer for the 2Souls QH. Longer, slacker bikes out there now, but for something that qas designed 7 years ago, it was ahead of its time and was at the forefront of the hardcore 29er thang. Handles superbly, lots of compliance, great fun to ride.
Those Ti Kingdoms look the bollocks though. If I won the lottery..

Can't beat a good hardtail!

I'm a massive fan of Stanton bimes too. I swapped a BFe for an old Slackline 853 frame and fell in love with it. Initially it was just supposed to be for mucking around on but I found myself riding it more and more despite it being too small for me. That became a steel Switchback which be a e my go to bike so I sold my Banshee Rune and the Switchback to buy a Ti Switchback which was amazing. Loved that bike but it was stolen, so I bought a second generation version!

It was cheap and mass produced, not steel, and (almost) completely standard but it's getting it's claws into me all the same.

Since building the Cotic, I barely ride my Five these days unless going to a decent trail centre.

Next bike will either be a Kinesis Sync 27.5, Kinesis Tripster or Croix De Fer.

You can't beat a good hardtail for versatility, and slacklines are one of the best.

So, we're fans of HTs then?

My HT build spreadsheet has a few options; Stanton Switchback & Slackline, Cotic Soul & BFe, Bird Zero AM and TR, Orange P7 ... Choice paralysis ...

Been enjoying my old Prince Albert over the winter, don't feel ready to tuck it away again just yet.

Philbuh, the new Slackline is a fantastic bike. Dan leant me one for a few weeks last year and I loved it. As a trail bike, it's the one that I'd buy now. Don't get me wrong I love my Switchback but the Slackline was an easier bike to live with for general riding.

The 853 tubeset didn't feel like a huge step down from my Ti frame in terms of feel etc. It's bloody ace.

I had a Mk3 Bfe, bought it as a stop gap between FS frames and just couldn't let it go. Lost the love at the end of last summer for various reasons and sold it and bought a CX bike (well technically bought a CX bike and then broke the Bfe for parts!) The Bfe was so similar in build and purpose to my FS - while also weighing more thanks to the build - that I was riding it in certain places because it was the bike I rode there! Realised that a CX bike made far more sense for me locally, and also having a child on the way I knew that I'd get more out of an hours blast on the road/bridleways locally.

However, back in February, while spending a mildly stressful couple of days in hospital with the now arrived LittleMissMomo, a spate of idle ebay browsing resulted in me buying a Genesis Tarn frame and fork, new wheels and tyres and a few parts from he garage and I now have this
Tarn at Pines by Matt Cotterill, on Flickr

A breach of MrsMomos one in one out policy, but justified as a baby carrying bike (and funded by a large scale spares clear out!)

I'm about to have an enforced summer/autumn relationship with my Genesis Alpitude, as I'll be in Greece in a month's time and, much as I'd like to, I can't justify the expense and trouble of sending my LV 301 out there and sending it back at the start of winter. Knowing my luck, it would probably get lost or damaged en route anyway.

So, the Alpitude with 160mm Marzocchis it is - with its stupid 30mm seat tube that means that I can't have a dropper post with more than 100mm drop, as it's shimmed to 27.2mm. Why couldn't it have been 30.9mm......?
Other than that, I'm hoping that I'll still like it.

I was a little surprised to read Ton's comment in another thread about having many steel and alloy frame and not being able to tell the difference. Granted i've not had as many bikes(has anyone?) but the difference in ride quality from the moment i slung my leg over the Slackine the quality of the frame has been apparent. Its way lighter than i thought it would be, and the addition of a dropper has added an hooligan element to a classy frame.

I guess with the trails dry, folks will be shelving the hardtails for the big ol' bouncy things..dry trails + hardtail = big skidz.

I made this. I like it, but not as much as my Spitfire. It does only owe me about £350 though.
