Buying totally off the shelf, and as a complete package, what would people go for out of these 3?
1 Trek 8500
2 Scott Scale 35
3 Cube Reaction GTC SL
BTW I already have a steel Kona Explosif hardtail and a Spesh alu S Works FSR full sus
Cheers
Presumably this is as an XC race bike?
Out of those 3, the Cube if you want the best overall package, the Scott if you want the best frame and you're planning on upgrading the cheaper components to better ones in the long run, or the Trek if you absolutely must ride the most hideously colour schemed bike I have ever seen!
hmmm Nothing to choose except perhaps the paint work :o)
In which case I hate the Trek, am indifferent to the Scott and love the Cube.
The one you prefer riding?
I was going to say Cube but then read this...
"The result is increased product safety and improved STW values."
STW values 😯
That Scott has to have a very good frame if it puts Deore level chainset on a bike that costs £1700.
The Cube has the nicest spec and a carbon frame but it's £500 more then the Trek.
If it wasn't for the paint work on the 8500 I would go for that. But although the Trek is £1600 you need to factor in the price of matching clothes:

😉
Is there no last year 8500's available?
How about this Sunn Prim S1, SID forks, 9.8kg, looks good:

[start]complete tart mode
Well our club strip is mainly greens and whites so the Scott has the worst scheme of the 3(ignore the fact my spesh is team red & white ).
/[end]
There is some good pricing on the Cube which brings it more in to line with the two Yankmobiles but I know nothing about them. It has the best spec though.
Keep the thoughts coming please
id check out the canyon range of hardtails - the spec you get on them for 1700 will blow all 3 of them away!
You can get a carbon fibre trek for the same price.

The colour scheme is easier on the eye too.

That Drek has cheaper components on it, which is why I discounted it.
OW
I've looked at Canyon stuff but their lead times can be a bit long.
I was quite taken with this Simplon but that's not cheap!
Paul's are doing the 2010 model Scott Scale 35 for only £1295

The scott. Bestest frame that can be upgraded in future. The one above.
Then spend the rest of the cash on a super pimp light wheelset.
if i was 6 stone lighter, the scott would be my choice.
Agree with kudos, the main issue with that Trek is that if you turn up on that you basically *have* to win don't you! Can you live with that pressure?

Crikey!
What he said... That is some bike (well frame mainly) for the price...
If I was in the market for an XC race bike right now, I'd buy that in a heartbeat, then sell the wheels and the drivetrain off it, then get on the case replacing it with a mix of XT/XTR probably as a 1x10 setup, and buy some very nice lightweight wheels for it. You'd probably end up with a killer 20lb race bike for under £2k that way!
And the frame is green, white and black... So should match your team kit nicely! 😉
