[#1638864]

So i have my 09 454 u turn pikes..

Now, i wish to get the light spring as i never seem to use up anywhere near the whole travel but before i purchase one i was wondering if anyone has anything to say about converting them to dual air..

I've read that its possible and wondered if anyone on here could give their opinions ( do i have to ask? )

Also, is that much of a difference between the coil and air in terms of performance?

I've had both and I think there is very little in either, except weight of course.

What do you weigh? Standard pike spring?

Weight wise there is something like 100g between the air and coil 454s...not much.

I own coil lyrics and air pikes and they're much of a muchness in terms of plushness but the air is much lighter.

I weigh 65kg without a riding pack. I think most of the air appeal is the ease to change the ride just by adding / removing air.

Im 71kg without kit and a medium is fine for me. You could try a lighter weight spring (~£20 from tf) or spend lots on a conversion (around £120). Also see if you have lots of floodgate on (gold knob) as lots (more than around 10 clicks) can make a them ride harsh and make it hard to get full travel.

i was under the impressions that floodgate only affected the forks when the lock out was on.. its highly likely i could be wrong though.

lighter springs are £40 atm on TF tuned, is there anywhere that does them cheaper?

It controls the point at which the fork goes into the high speed compression circuit. It does affect the fork when blue (low speed compression) is fully off. If gold is set too high it will almost never use the hsc circuit, hence a harsh ride and not using all travel.
.
It was boxxer springs that were £20! Forgot about the u-turn spring.

oh thats interesting to know. might adjust that first then see how it goes.

anyone know of concise guides as to how to change from coil to air just for some reading?

For the minimal weight difference I would stick to the coil and pay out for the light spring. Plusher (IMO) and less to go wrong.

I have a second hand medium if that is what you need.

Email in profile if interested.

Duh. Well, it will be: A Pike is a shorter fork with slimmer diameter stanchions (32mm vs 36mm on the Lyriks IIRC) and a generally lighter build. Not comparable at all, sorry.

i'd suggest just getting the lighter spring. once you've settled on air pressures it's doubtful you'll play around with them much, so you end up with a fork tuned to your weight. fit an appropriate spring for your weight and you'll end up with a fork tuned for your weight. 😀
