Possible? I.e a road one with good coverage at the base of the cranium(?), is well vented etc but still looks OK for both road and trail?

I don't know how high at the back you'd consider, but the Giro Bishop (is it also called Giro Revel?) might work if you remove the peak for the road.

Most of the low-at-the-back ones will look most un-road-like imo.

This fits the bill, my brother has one. Think they also came in black but might be discontinued. Might be one in stock somewhere though

The fact it covers most of your face will make the day more enjoyable for the people the ride with you because they don't have to look at your face!!!
