Pease that is quality. Cheers
That is great! I want to ride my mtb and have a dog now 😆
Reminds me of this video:
Brian at Gisburn,
Took a few minutes for him to work out that walking in front of me whilst riding resulted in a sore nose, he now runs along side the rear mech,
Also takes different lines, each time.
thanks guys, im glad you liked it. i actually made a video for my girlfriend as she always wanted to know why he had a line of mud from his nose to his tail. it was ambrose that told me to post it up here..
as for franky, the first few times i took him out he tried overtaking me and then would stop infront of me. which isnt great i have to say. after a few rides and some gentle screaming he now run right by my back wheel on all decents. theres another small clip on my youtube channel of him and and another dog killing the trail.
for those that asked, it was cwm rhaeadr. im lucky to have it on my doorstep pretty much 🙂
thats my first short clip of franky and his friend bernie 🙂 i will try and shoot a proper little mtb dog video this year.
@mtbmatt those guys were there same time as me on wed' didnt realize they were filming too. how random is that.
Re : first vid. No-one metioned that there were lots of tail whips.
🙂
What was that ? No, mine was cashmere with a black collar...
brilliant
Yeah great stuff. Shown my mate who hates cycling and dogs. Result = watched it twice with a big smile
brilliant!! after a 12 hour day in work it was nice to come home and see everyone enjoyed. funny how a friday + simple video = happy people 🙂
weekend is here now and cant wait to have a day on the bike in the ellan valley tomorrow 🙂
You really should teach him to go infront....and follow his lines!! 😀
great vid, I really miss biking with my rottie
That's awesome, loved it at 1.02 when the dog looks left taking he's eyes off the track as if it's easy and a few of those cheeky 'racing lines'! Made me miss my old dog though
Great vid, looks really fun!
Out of interest how long can he keep up that pace and how long do yo ride for? Don't his paws get knackered by the flint etc on the ground?
he will come on a 20k ride no worries. he is out with me most weekends either walking or cycling. im lucky in the fact he never has any problems with his pads. thats a 7k loop and he will do 2 laps at near that pace after that he stops more, but dont we all 😉 hes not 4 years old yet so has far too much energy!!
really enjoyed that video, thanks very much. made me laugh and now i'm a bit sad as i mss my husky, Blu 🙁
Brilliant.
He has such flow, great lines, so relaxed he has time to look around. Takes it all in his stride. Good boy.
Thanks for posting.
It's kewl the way he stays behind. He could have passed you lots of times. Is that something you taught him or does he do that naturally?
SB
@stratobiker, ive taught him to stay behind me on the downs otherwise it can get a little sketchy!! ill be honest and say i have little control over him on the first climb of any ride tho 🙂
@pease - how did you get him to do that? Was he good on a lead before? I'd be interested to know your technique.
First climb of any ride? Yes, I can well imagine. He likes to go fast! 🙂
hes been brilliant from the word go. he was one and a half when we got him from a rescue house and seemed to have a basic understanding of commands. he does learn very quickly though especially when having his rear end rubbed by my front wheel 😆
even if he does go in front i can make him heel and he will return to my side of behind me. just takes a bit of time and helps to have an awsome dog!!
with my dog a lot of it is just the same as when she's being walked on the lead. mine's far from perfect, and makes the same sort of slip-ups when off the lead with the bike as she does on it walking. from an early age she was taught to get out of the way if she was in front, just by using 'move', and if she didn't she got a bit of interference. 🙂 she knows i'm not pi55ing about though if i'm on the bike and is generally very responsive to commands. if your dog is basically trained and will learn it comes pretty quick.
that's great, I wish I could get a dog. Maybe I could...
Thanks pease, Del. I'm currently working hard with my new girl. She's a quick learner, and a good girl. I'm almost starting from scratch as she hasn't had any training on a lead, and has been used to getting away with stuff by acting cute.
I've tried her around the garden with my bike. She likes it, but were a way off going out on the trails. We'll get there though.
@jimmy - why can't you get a dog?
Loved the clip Pease. So much so that I posted it on a motorhome forum I frequent. Now I'm being lambasted by a few do goodie types saying dogs should not be made to run like that 🙄 God, theres some sad folk about!
Fantastic video mate. Totally loved it.
@jackal.. your little pup' is gorgeous!!!! i want one 🙂
@steveBbrain.. people are funny. some say that dogs shouldnt run that fast, but you try telling franky that when he sees my walking down the stairs in my cycling jersey. he goes wild!!! apparently he has a right old sulk when i leave without him.
Not in the same league as the OP's vid as shot on a very poor camera a few years ago, but still great fun too make. Dogs make the best riding buds as they dont mock your skills and question your routes. Still ride with my dog but he's a bit older now so Its not as far and never in the heat as he had a hard recovery after a local 6 mile ride in the 27 degree heat a few summers back which gave me a scare.
Even now If I pull my bike out the shed he start to jump about and wag his tail .
nice vid stanfree
Can I just say....being devil's advocate and all that (and I love dogs, just got a pup) what happens if another rider comes up behind you? Will your pup sort of pull over or do you just make sure there is going to be no one following you. Just wondered, that's all. Great vid. My kids loved it and the ever increasing tongue length!
@rockhopper. trail wise, i only take him to cwm rhaeadr otherwise its just natural rides that he comes on. cwm rhaeadr is my local track so without sounding like im boasting not many catch up unless we stop to chat. (myself and friends, not me and the dog) ha.
he would get out of the way normally but id never take him to a busier track like brechfa etc. id feel terrible if he cut someone up or worse made them fall.
as for his tongue, its becoming a bit of a legend in its self hahaha. he will trip on it one day im sure.
