Hi guys looks like im going to be getting the Ragley MMMbop its coming with dt swiss forks and a seat post and wheels and tyres. I was just wondering as im new to mountain biking if anyone can suggest some decent components (dont want to spend a fortune) thinking of running a double with bash guard but open to ideas, also what brakes and handle bars and stems

For your bar and stem take a look at merlin cycles depending on the length of stem you want have a look at the Truvativ Holzfeller Stem, RaceFace Evolve AM Stem and RaceFace Respond Stem. All of thes stems are about £30 and would go quite well with what an mmmbob is designed to do.

Any of the bars on the site upto £30 will do the job more than adiquately, no real reason to spend more at this point.

As for a groupset, it is hard to look past the full deore 10 speed set at merlin that would also include brakes for £260

[edit] another place to look for your groupset - cranks, bottom bracket, front and rear derailleurs chain and cassette is rose bikes, there site can be a little harder to get round but they offer fantastic prices [/edit]

I was thinking maybe slx but the offer on Merlin for the deore is really good cud I turn the deore into a 2x10 instead of a 3x10 and put a bash guard on it, I will have a look at the stems u have said

You could always get an slx groupset here, some slx brakes off rose bikes, and as said above get a cheapish stem/bars off merlin.

EDIT: In fact that isn't all that much cheaper than Merlin, oops.

As you've not specified a budget, here's a list of good VFM parts that I'd be happy to use on my Blue Pig. All prices are from Merlin unless otherwise stated (assuming with a name like lancslad they'll be fairly local) and include the current 10% discount.

Groupset: SLX (£225). It just works. Whatever you chose you'll also have to buy 3M of cable outer as the frame uses full length outers.
Brakes: Avid Elixir 3 with 180/160 rotors (£99). If you're a big lad consider 203/180 rotors.
Handlebars: Ragley frames really suit wide bars. I've just swapped a 720 set of Sunlines for a 750 set of Easton Havoc's (£36) and prefer this width.
Stem: IMO all stems are very simalar in feel no matter what you pay, the more expensive are a bit lighter. Ragley frames are designed around short (50-60mm) stems. £27-30 gets you a Raceface Evolve or Respond.
Grips: Large hands - Lizardskins northshore (£16), medium or small - Superstar supagrippa or size zero (£8-9, www.superstarcomponents.com)
Pedals: Superstar Nanotech (£43).
Saddle: My perch of choice is a SDG Bel-Air (£36), however another popular VFM saddle is a Charge Spoon, A google search should be able to get one of these for about £20.
