9speed chain on a 1...
 

[Closed] 9speed chain on a 10speed chainring..........flames & death?

An online bike shop has let me down on a chainring order but has sent out a replacement in a different colour. The fashion faux pas I can live with but they've sent the 10speed version and not the 9. Will it still work?

Ring is a TA Specialite, chain is a PC991.

Absolutely fine- inside thickness is the same.

No problem. The inner dimensions of 9 and 10 speed chains are the same.

.. and last time I got my vernier callipers out to check, a 9sp chainring is exactly the same width as a 10sp one, and the spacing between chainrings on 9sp and 10sp cranks is the same. So, what the difference between 9sp and 10sp cranksets is, I just don't know...
