I killed my 10sp chain at the weekend and have a spare (new) 9sp SRAM chain here. Will it work with my 10sp cassette (1x) or will it all end in a fiery death?

Tried it by accident before, wouldn't recommend it - jumped about a bit IIRC.

Other way round not so bad, but yeah match blocks to chains, chain rings are more versatile though as less precise

I ran 9 speed chains on 10 speed initially until the price of 10s chains came down. It was fine.

Yeah, I knew I could use a 10sp chain on 9sp stuff but wasn't sure of the other way round. I was just trying to save a fiver! #STW 😆
