Can 9mm QRs be retro fit to standard wheels or is it a case of new hub? i'm currently running XT hub with Talas forks.

I am not aware you can retrofit an 9mm thru axle on XT hubs - YOu can with some hubs inc CK, Hope and others but unless someone knows better not on an XT - not sure it would be worth the expense of going 9mm having to buy an new wheel?

No they need a special hub, but will fit a std QR fork. Some hubs can be converted, but not an XT I suspect. Not worth getting a new hub for I would say.

Any std 9mm QR will fit any hub designed to take a quick release skewer.

Er - a 5mm QR will fit inside a 9mm hub hole but I wouldn't recommend it.

I think some people are getting confised here
Hopefully I won't confuse anyone further ..

The 'normal' QR and QR hub uses a 5mm QR skewer into a 5mm hollow axle with a 9mm outer diameter to fit a 9mm front QR fork dropout (rear QR axle size is 10mm)

A 9mm QR acts as the axle for the hub, but still sits in 9mm fork dropouts"

I don't think you can convert a QR XT hub to take a 9mm QR. Where would the threaded cup/cone nuts sit?
