[Closed] 9 speed XT cassette - what's the spacer for?
I've just opened up my new, 9 speed XT hub (aluminium carrier)for fitting onto a Hope Pro2 Evo hub.
There appears to be a spacer of some description (about 3mm thick) which I haven't seen before on the cheaper all steel 9 speed cassettes.
I'm not entirely sure if I need to use it or where it goes if I do.
Can someone point me in the right direction?
The cassette also feels a little loose whilst fitted, but hopefully this'll get sorted when I've tightened up the lock ring.
Sure it's not the spacer for the first loose cog?
It could be; I've tended to buy cheaper cassettes which have had less loose cogs and I've never had a space before.
There are also no instructions in the box so I'll see what Shimano have on their website.
I've had another look and it's the spacer that sits between the first and second loose cogs.
Pleased you started the thread then? Hopefully nobody else will post on it and it will disappear off the page pretty quick.
Hopefully.
But more likely people won't actually read that you've found the answer and will continue to bump the thread with unwanted information.
About cassette spacers an that.
Bump!
Yep, should drop down pretty quick now.
Oh nos!
Yay I was right! Anything you want to know about headsets?
do cassette spacers fit in headsets?
Not sure my xt 9 speed cassettes have spacers.
It's the spacer that sits between the first and second loose cogs.
Are they cogs or sprockets?
While we're sat around being pendants, surely it's 'fewer'?
Nope, my 11 and 13 both have inbuilt shoulders. No spacers on any of mine.
I've got inbuilt shoulders. So I've been told.
It goes between your sprockets, oh too late ๐
glad you've got it sorted.
This should drop off the front page soon.
