[#7161531]

Trying to decide what 9-speed derailleur to match with an X0 twist shifter.

In the past I'd read that X0 gives crisper changes than X9, but I suspect some of that was due to X9 and X0 shifters.

The X9 derailleur is around £50 and the X0 is around £140, so £90 difference.

It's for a road-going bike, so it shouldn't get bashed against rocks or dragged through deep mud, although with the current state of the roads...

X9 has been fine in the past. The X0 shifters are great

It's all in the shifter. X9 is too closely related to X7/5 to make much difference but X0 is in a different league

X9 mech works really well with X0 shifter although tbh it does look rather low-rent compared to the shifter.

Ze Germans (bike discount/bike 24) had the mechs for £115 last time I looked

It's all in the shifter.

And the cables. X0 shifters plus decent sealed cables = blissful shifting.

I've not really noticed a mech change making a difference on SRAM or Shimano.

On that difference x9 every time, they are great mechs anyway.

Downgraded from XO mech to X9 due to price point being unjustifyable on second bike. Kept the X0 shifters though. Have not noticed a difference. In fact the X9 makes just as much noise when dirty as the X0 always did 🙁

Thanks very much. It sounds like X9 will do the job, and I can put the £90 towards something else.
