[Closed] 9-speed shifter only shifting 8 notches

I've just taken apart and reassembled (there was my mistake) an x7 shifter. In cycling the shifter after putting the spring back in, it seems to only do 8 gears. Will the 9th reappear when it's back on the bike attached to the mech or is there something else that I need to do inside to get it working?

Yup.

1-click-2-click-3-click-4-click-5-click-6-click-7-click-8-click-9

sounds normal to me!?

As above. I fell foul of that once, doh! If that isn't the case, thread a cable in it with a bit of tension and try it like that

Junkyard - be gentle, I'm going 1x9 at least.

Yeah, probably the 8-clicks for 9 gears thing. I'm an idiot.

No definitely fubar... Although I need a new X7 shifter for my [s] 9 [/s] 8 speed set-up and I'd give you £1 to take it off your hands...

😈

Oddly shimano put 7 clicks on their 7 spd thumbies which meant you could use them on 8spd. Munqe chicks Kona from 93-94 is still on its original 7spd thumbies and an 8spd cassette.
