Fitting a new sram chainset onto a single speed. Want to run 9 speed chain with the 12 speed chainring, anyone tried it? Any problems?

Chain pitches are the same regardless of speed, it’s only the width that varies. A 9 speed chain will move a bit more side-to-side so there may be extra noise, but mechanically will work fine.

Yep, ‘twas absolutely fine…the shape of the teeth on the chainring had me nervous, but ran as smooth as a very smooth thing, so all good.
