You shouldn't really need a 185mm rotor though if your brakes are working properly. I've had my 853PA out in BC since early 2007, including runs in Whistler Bike Park and never felt underpowered in the rear, especially when most of the braking should come from the front.

Hi Stuart

I find the rear rotor is overheating too easily

Then you are dragging the brake too much.

165mm max rear rotor on the 853 Prince Alberts.

All current frames take up to 185mm rear rotor.

Sorry Joe, there was just one batch of 853 frames (100 in total).

There will however be a Reynolds 725 version around March. Slightly nicer and lighter than the outgoing Reynolds 520 version (and CEN compliant).

Joe, 725 is heat treated to make it stronger than regular cro-moly.

853 is heat treated and air hardening (i.e. it gets stronger after welding).

725 is stronger than non-heat treated cro-moly, but not as strong as 853.

So basically my 853 will be strong enough to survive a head on crash due to the fact that the rear disc is smoking and I cant stop!

I love that bike but the tine rear disc really messes it up!

How much for the new one?

How hard are you riding that a 160mm disk isn't sufficient in the rear?

Joe, where do you normally ride that a 160mm rear disc is overheating?

Rear brake is only supposed to slow you down, front brake is to stop you.
