Is the 853 Inbred worth seeking out if i can find one (a long shot possibly), or should i wait til the current one is back in stock at on-one?
I bet, in a double blind test, even Brant wouldn't be able to tell the difference.
My brother's just sold a red 853....
I've got both a DN6 (SS) and an 853 (Geared) and there isn't a massive differnece between them. The 853 does feel slightly, errr, nicer....
A tad more forgiving and eager is the best way to describe it I think
The DN6 feels more solid, slightly muted, still a nice bike though.
This could all be due to component choices though...
🙂
IHN - How VERY dare you!
😉
DOesn't 853 weigh less for the same strength? There was me hoping for something between the Ti 456 and the DN6 456...
853 is a thinner tube, and inspite of this, will be stronger due to the increase in material strength, and also doesn't use gussets, so won't make skiddy marks on the paint.
They're nice, but the state the £ is in, I can't see reordering soon.

I did weigh mine on the kitchen scales when I got it - 4lb 11oz (a Merlin Rock Lobster 853 is 4lb 4oz, 1/2lb lighter)and the DN6 was 5lb 3oz IIRC
So yeah, about 1/2 lb in it
The answer is to use 2 stickers 😀
brant, would i be right in saying its only the main 3 tubes that are 853, the others are cromoly, or have i made that up?
Swoosh - Yes that's correct. Hardly anyone uses the full tubeset, it's not necessary. I think Cotic have a good explantation as to why this is on their website
🙂
i couldn't tell the difference, however i like sliding dropouts, so if you don't care about them, just buy a regular or geared dn6 frame, and it'll be dandy. nice frames all. different geo to 456s though, of any material.
