[#313881]

Afternoon 🙂

Doing some work on a friend's oldish Trek 6000 - it's in a right state, been left outside for the past 2 years!

Anyway, I bought some bits from Wiggle for it, and I stupidly assumed it was an 8 speed, so bought a suitable chain. Having just looked at it I find it's got a 9 speed block on it. Doh.

Will the 8 speed chain work (it's a KMC X8-93) or will I have to buy a new chain?

Cheers.

I've seen this work but would not guarantee it.

It'll work!

I run 6-7-8 speed chains on 8 & 9sp mtb and on 9sp road bike, never had any problems.

KMC chains from Parker Int for £3 nice and cheap.

Cheers, seems the consensus is that it won't work - with a couple who have tried it!

Having just checked the wiggle site they'll do a free return, so I'll do that and get the 9 speed one.
