Union Cycliste International, will meet this morning to ratify the 750B wheel size. In tests it has proven smoother on rough roads like high mountain stages and classics like Paris-Roubaix with the dreaded cobbles. The size died out between the wars when it was mainly used for touring and town bikes. It is ideal for riders over 6ft as minimum frame size has to be 58cm and above. There are only a few sets of wheels so-far in existence,Specialized have a Roval 750B set in testing and Mavic used a carbon wheel set with maxtal spokes. Rims are tubular compatible only using handmade 25C/27C tubs. The ride is like riding a tandem a lot smoother due to longer wheelbase. Many in the sport are unhappy with the possible adoption of a new wheel size ( they could cost around 3000 euro a pair) and they are a little heavier. Jens Vogt said of the nay-sayers "Shut up luddites!", when asked of his opinion. The decision is expected to be announced today before noon,by UCI spokesperson April Furst.

This may have given the game away
Nice one, but in reality with 650b already well established and 650b+ gaining some traction (excuse the pun) it probably won't be long until a 750 mtb appears!
