I just spotted on merlin they are doing 9speed XTR 970 cassettes for £75 normally XTR is out of my price range but this price is pretty good!

I'm after a new cassette will an xtr cassette out last an XT or SLX cassette to make it worth the money?

IMHO No - just lighter 🙂 Now XTR Ti Chain rings - perhaps.

I've run XTR over XT because they are substantially lighter. Not sure if they wear any better/worse, if I'm honest.

I wouldn't. A £25 cassette does the same job and weighs a little more.

You can have a lot more fun with £50 than saying "I have an xtr cassette".

Cynic-al i agree im trying to work out what will be cheapest in the long run if an xtr cassette outlasts an SLX by 6-12 months then it should overall be cheaper

Has anyone ever done a study into how much you'd have to spend on XTR weight-weenie bling before you'd lose the equivalent weight on the bike of say... not having eating a cheese and onion pasty?

I've ran an XTR in the past, it lasted far longer than XT

I've serviced hundreds of bikes. xtr cassettes do not last longer, though their owners want to believe so. Hard.

Pimpmaster? I think we are coming at this from different angles-mine being that saving 100gm on consumable part (bar tyres) for that money is STUPID - for most bikes there are cheaper ways to save the money.

Deore Cassettes for me! £17 a pop! Had an expensive cassette in the past didnt perform any better was only lighter. Same with chains.

I've also serviced hundreds of bikes. In my experience xtr cassettes generally do last longer, even though the nay-sayers don't want to believe so.

however, I don't think they last longer enough to make it worth the cash.

Do they last longer because they're better or because your more inclined to look after things when you spend that much?

Except high end chains are barely any lighter.

XTR cassettes don't last longer at least the top cogs made from Ti don't IME. But they are a bit lighter than XT if that's worth anything to you. buy two XT's for the same!

So then....I'm interested in getting one too....titanium should last longer, especially as the top 4 cogs are the ones I use the most in second ring....

Is it gonna be much of an improvement shifting wise through winter? Anyone gone from xt or pg990 to one?

why does titanium last longer than steel?

I know in terms of grit erosion Ti and Nickel can be very good but not sure about them in relation to steel.

I'd go for a SRAM red win one. Lovely cassette, cheaper too i think.

the cassette will last longer if you look after the chain and replace it more often or is that another waste of time
