700c wheels in a 29...

Would 700c road wheels fit straight into a 29er frame. Don't worry I'm not building one but a mate was asking............

Same difference diameter wise. You might find a rear road hub is narrower.

Yes, although if it is a proper road wheel set it might be 130mm spaced.

Why not just fit 700c tyres on the 29er rim?

Rim bed might be a bit wide, depending on the tyre.

Yes and no; it depends on the rim bed & tyre widths. There is a thing about it [url= http://www.sheldonbrown.com/tire-sizing.html#width ]here[/url]; a 38-622 SB8 should probably seat OK on a 17mm bed C29ssmax, for example.

can put a cross tyres on a 19mm (internal) rim but i wouldn't put a 25c roadtyre on it.

The reason for asking my mate has some quite wide rimmed 700c wheels and the chance of buying a Surly Karate
