[#567687]

heading up to Scotland in July for a long weekend and am looking for somewhere to stay. Camping is ideal but cabins etc also worth looking at. Any recommendations of places in close proximity to a decent pub and central for visiting the stanes

Thing I've found with camping is if its shitty, then you never seem to get dry so I am hoping this is a good 1/2 way house.

There's a wee camp site smack dab in the middle of Dalbeattie. Stayed there for a couple of nights early last summer and it was Ok. It's only a 2 minute walk from the pubs as well!

Mabie House Hotel (right next to the trailhead) has wood cabins/pods they let out for about £35 per night (I think), sleep 4 people. They do bar food. Oh yeah, and beer! You might have to book tho

I camped for 4 nights at the campsite in Beattock, just down the road from Moffat, right on the A74 - they've got Cabins as well - decent shower block and on-site bar and food.

It's about 20 mins to AE 30 Mins to Dumfries and about an hour to Glentress by car.

It's right by a freight ralway line, but it isn't all that busy, and it's cheap to camp!
